Common feeding methods for automatic screwing machines - how to choose?

The feeding method of an automatic screwing machine directly determines line takt, stability and applicable scenarios. The three common solutions are: vibratory bowl, blow-fed and sorting machine (suction feeding).

Vibratory bowl feeding

Screws are vibration-aligned and delivered to thesorting port. Simple and cost-effective, it suits small-batch production with uniform, few-variety screws. Downsides: noisier, and unfriendly to long/thin or jam-prone screws.

Blow-fed feeding

Screws are blown through a tube to the screwing head by compressed air. Fast and flexible in routing, ideal for light/small screws and high-takt lines. Requires a stable air source and a reasonable length-to-diameter ratio.

Sorting machine (suction)

A feeder orients screws one by one; a suction nozzle picks and drives them. High precision and versatility, great for irregular screws or frequent changeovers.

How to choose

  • Screws: light/standard → blow-fed; irregular/large → suction.
  • Takt: high output → blow-fed; frequent changeover → sorter.
  • Line: tight space, single variety → bowl is more economical.
