Blow-fed vs suction screwing - principles and selection

Blow-fed and suction are the two mainstream screw-delivery methods, with different principles and clearly different best-fit conditions.

Blow-fed principle

After orientation in the feeder, screws are blown at high speed through a tube to the head. Short waiting time enables very short cycle times—ideal for continuous, high-volume, light/small screws.

Suction principle

A nozzle creates vacuum to hold the oriented screw and move it to the fastening position. No air blowing, steadier pose control—ideal for larger, heavier or irregular screws, and less prone to jamming in the tube.

Selection tips

  • Speed: blow-fed wins on cycle time for high-volume lines.
  • Stability: suction is friendlier for irregular/large screws, steadier yield.
  • Screw range: blow-fed is sensitive to length/diameter ratio; suction is broader.

If screws are uniform and you chase output, blow-fed pays off; for multi-variety with irregular parts, suction is safer.
